Limmud NY iPod Handbook

Carry complete program schedule and presenter
information in your iPod
  • Summary The iPod Handbook can be installed on your iPod nano, iPod mini, and most regular iPods. It includes the complete schedule including presenters' information and session descriptions. You can browse the schedule by day and time or by presenter.
  • Required software and hardware You must be able to synch your iPod with your Windows or Macintosh computer. You need a high speed connection to the Internet. Supported iPods: iPod nano, iPod mini and 3rd generation or later regular iPods. The 3rd generation iPod was the first with a dock connection; it was released in April, 2003.

First Time Installation

  • Step 1—Windows and Macintosh Attach your iPod to your computer and enable disk use for your iPod using iTunes if it isn't already checked. Screen shot. More information.

You should now see your iPod as a new disk drive letter (Windows screenshot) or on your desktop (Mac screenshot). If you don't then use iTunes to eject your iPod, then disconnect and re-connect it to your computer.
  • Step 2—Windows Download the Limmud NY iPod installer and run it on your computer. It will download and install the handbook onto your iPod.
  • Step 2—Macintosh Download the Limmud NY iPod handbook file to your desktop. Your computer should display the handbook folder on your desktop. Open the iPod disk icon. Drag and drop the folder into the "Notes" folder in the iPod. Screenshot.
  • Step 3—Windows and Macintosh Eject your iPod using the iTunes software. Do not simply unplug the iPod. On your iPod's main menu, you should see a choice "Notes." If you do not, enter Settings / Main menu. Under the "Extras" category, select "Notes" and press the center button. This will change "Notes" from Off to On. When you go back to the main menu you will see the Notes category.
  • Try it out! Go to your "Notes" screen and click on the Limmud NY folder. The iPod will say "Loading notes." This message will last a couple of minutes while the iPod processes the handbook. This delay only occurs once. You can now browse by presenter or by session day and time. You can click the links to surf the schedule. Use the "Home" links to return to the beginning of the schedule. Use the click wheel's top button to go "Back" to the previous document.

Updating the Program Handbook

  • New versions of the handbook The handbook is updated regularly up until and through the conference. To install a new version on Windows, restart the installer on your computer. For the Mac, re-do step 2, above, to download the most current Handbook.
